Terry Gene Bollea, better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, is an American professional wrestler, actor, musician, television personality, and businessman. The wrestler is easily recognizable by his cool personality, long white hair, handlebar mustache, and distinctive feathered boa. Growing up, he was an aspiring musician and baseball player, but would later choose wrestling as his forte. He received his training from famous coach Hiro Matsuda, and on the first day of training, Matsuda broke Hulk Hogan’s leg. Hulk Hogan returned as soon as his leg healed, earning the coach’s respect and admiration. Over time, he became a very popular fighter and earned many fans whom he referred to as “Hulkamaniacs” in his interviews. He is also known for his four “demands”: training, prayer, taking vitamins, and believing in yourself. His career received a boost from the start when he appeared alongside Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky III”.
Childhood and Early Life:
Hulk Hogan was born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia, USA, to Pietro Bollea, a construction foreman, and Ruth V, a dance teacher. The family moved to Port Tampa, Florida when he was very young. He participated in “Little League Baseball” as a child, but an injury ended his potential baseball career. Hogan has also played the bass fretboard for nearly a decade for Florida-based rock bands. He attended Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida, where he dropped out to focus on music. He formed the band “Ruckus” in 1976 with other musicians. Several wrestling competitions are organized in the Florida area. Therefore, many wrestlers headed to the pubs of Florida where “Ruckus” performed. Jack and Gerald Brisco, brothers and colleagues, noticed Hogan and were impressed by his physique. Motivated by the Briscoe brothers, Hogan began training with Hiro Matsuda, who is best known for coaching wrestlers for the “Championship Wrestling from Florida” (CWF).
Hulk Hogan fought Brian Blair on August 10, 1977, after training for a year with Matsuda. When things didn’t work out with Matsuda, he and the CWF left him. Hogan decides to team up with his friend Ed Leslie (Brutus Beefcake) to form a team and join the “Louis Tillet Alabama District”. In Alabama, they wrestled as The Boulder Brothers. They have left Tillet’s Territory for Continental Wrestling. CWA in Memphis when promoter Jerry Jarrett offered them $ 800 a week. Hogan won his first wrestling championship after defeating Bob Rob at the “NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship” in 1979. In 1979, Vincent McMahon gave him the opportunity to join WWF. In his first WWF match, he defeated Harry Valdes. His first major feud with Andre the Giant occurred in 1980 in which Hogan was defeated.
Hulk Hogan also participated in “New Japan Pro Wrestling” in the 1980s, demonstrating more traditional and technical combat maneuvers and adopting “Ax Bomber” as his final step. The Japanese loved and admired him and called him “Ichiban” (No. 1). He rose to stardom when he won his first “WWF Heavyweight Championship” belt in 1984 after defeating Iron Sheik. Hogan remained WWF Champion for 1,474 days from 1984 to 1988. He won the “Royal Rumble” matches in 1990 and 1991, becoming the first wrestler to win consecutive matches. Hogan pinned Sgt Slaughter at “WrestleMania VII” in 1991 to clinch his third “WWF Championship”. However, he lost the title of The Undertaker in ‘Survivor Series’. Only six days later, Hogan took it back, but due to Ric Flair’s interference, the title was declared vacant.
Hogan joined Ted Turner World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1994 and defeated Ric Flair in his first match to become a “WCW World Heavyweight Champion”. He won his second WCW Heavyweight Championship after beating The Giant in 1996 and a year later, losing it to Luger via surrender. Just five days later, he regained the title, before losing it to Sting. The title was declared vacant after several disputes; Sting finally won it in “Superbrawl VII”. He won his fourth WCW Heavyweight Championship in 1998 by defeating Savage in a very intermittent disqualification match, and finally losing it to Goldberg later that year.
Hogan defeated Kevin Nash in his fifth WCW Heavyweight Championship in 1999. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair featured him in the “Steel Cage First Blood Match” in the “WCW Uncensored” to win the title that same year. His last WCW Heavyweight Championship came in 1999 when he defeated Savage. He returned to WWF in 2002 for the “No Way Out” event. He won his sixth WWF Championship in Backlash, before losing it to The Undertaker at Judgment Day. In the year 2002, Hogan won his first “WWE World Tag Team Championship” with Edge as his partner. Soon after, Brock Lesnar defeated Hogan when the latter lost consciousness due to a bear hug. Although Hogan lost consciousness, Lesnar struck him ruthlessly. As a result, Hogan is paused.
Hogan defeated Vince McMahon at “WrestleMania XIX” in 2003, to the anger of Vince. After that, he made Hogan sit down for the rest of his contract. Hogan disguised himself as Mr. America and first appeared in SmackDown, after which Vince McMahon made several unsuccessful attempts to reveal his true identity. After the SmackDown Show was discontinued, Mr. America removed his mask to reveal his true identity and left the WWE Show in 2003.
